The View From NCS Technologies

Taking VDI Into the Field

Posted by Katie Callahan on Jul 27, 2016 11:03:09 AM

Everyone knows that implementing end-to-end VDI can be a large, complex undertaking. Certain groups, such as first responders, the military and some enterprises, need to take VDI into the field. The challenge is to do this as quickly and simply as possible, without the weight and footprint of recreating the data center you left back home.

To meet this need, NCS has created hyper-converged back-end solutions and end points intelligently integrated into rugged transit cases. These cases are capable of supporting large numbers of clients in the field without losing centralized control while simultaneously delivering ease of maintenance. This approach also simplifies the IT aspects of the reset process that must occur upon returning from deployments.

Deployable VDI Workgroup

This option makes possible the rapid deployment of Command Center and Workgroup Operations. It delivers centralized control over all client images with reduced downtime and IT support. This solution gives the flexibility to easily and quickly change client images to support multiple applications and specific use case scenarios. The virtualized zero client notebooks in this solution contain no data, making them far more secure than traditional rich clients. A basic configuration includes 1 high quality magnesium alloy Getac X500 Ultra-Rugged Server platform and 7 Cirrus LT family zero client notebooks.

Deployable VDI Enterprise Workgroup

The Deployable Enterprise VDI Workgroup allows for the easy and rapid deployment to temporary facilities where a larger workforce needs to be supported with network services and applications.  This makes it easier for organizations to reuse the initial investment repeatedly without leaving equipment behind or undergoing a much more labor intensive process to recover deployed assets. This fully-built configuration for 100 users includes a rugged, rackmount case on casters, and a complete turnkey, hyper-converged VDI solution that is scalable, flexible and cost effective.

Deployable Server/Client Workgroup

A basic configuration includes 1 high quality magnesium alloy Getac X500 Ultra-Rugged Server platform. In addition, this configuration includes 7 powerful Getac S400 semi-rugged laptops, developed specifically for military-type applications.
